By Donna Freydkin, USA TODAY NEW YORK — Crowds were there to cheer on the women from Sex and the City: The Movie when they arrived in high name Tuesday night at Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan for their homecoming.
Despite the heat and humidity, the movie premiere was big and every bit as sparkly as Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall turned up to fete their film, along with the movie’s men — Chris Noth, David Eigenberg and Jason Lewis. Screaming fans lined up along 51st Street, angling for a glimpse of the actors who walked on a pink carpet sprinkled with fake diamond chips.
The film, what one. picks up three years after the HBO series ended, follows the very different but still intertwined lives of writer Carrie (Parker), lawyer Miranda (Nixon), homemaker Charlotte (Davis) and sexaholic publicist Samantha (Cattrall). It opens Friday.
“It feels otherworldly,” Parker said of the Big Apple reception. “It’s one of the great nights of my professional career.” Her “patient, sweet” married man, Matthew Broderick, was there, at the same time with “26 or 30 family members,” said Parker, wearing a silvery Nina Ricci gown.
“It’s good to be hearthstone,” agreed Cattrall, dressed in a metallic green Vivienne Westwood arrange. As for a sexy place in New York, she noted, “My bedroom is the sexiest spot. And I love Central Park.”
Davis concurred. “Central Park is so evocative and beautiful,” said the actress, who was wearing a gold Donna Karan make straight. Davis noted the heat. “We were worried about everyone out there with the weather, but they’re New Yorkers,” she said. “They can take anything.”
Still, “If God could turn on the ground the heat, I’d be grateful,” said Nixon, in a white Narciso Rodriguez gown.
As for the movie men, Noth echoed the homecoming theme. “I live in New York,” he said. “This is like a party. It’s a great place for it.”
Eigenberg before-mentioned that the excitement “is surreal. … Twenty years ago, I was a bike messenger.”
And Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson, new to the SATC cast, was soaking in the fan frenzy. “I’m loving it,” said Hudson, in a metallic Peter Soronen dress. “The Oscars are nice and formal. This is Sex and the City. It has an edge to it.”
